Let the Amazon fever come. Today Amazon launched their Dutch website www.amazon.nl.
The long awaited fear of publishers has become a reality: the market for Amazon’s e-books has opened. I took a quick browse through the website and was happy to see the e-books were on purchase for more than just a few euros.
E-books can be purchased for somewhere between €5 and €10 on Amazon. A fair price for something that is handed to us digitally. Even I, wishing to publish a book in the nearby future, believe an e-book should be offered for less money than a paper book.
Yet still the emerge in the e-reader market will mean writers will earn less and publishers will have to adapt their business to compete with the prices Amazon offers their readers.
Other industries do not have to fear competition yet. The Dutch website only offers e-books right now.
