The Best Ways to Find Pen Pals for Learning Languages

My German was at quite a good level some time ago. I learned it really well during my exchange to Rostock, but that has already been three years ago and I wanted to find a way to practice my German again as I have noticed I really need to keep up to not forget words and grammar rules. So, I went looking for pen pals and found some great websites that helped me find the right ones. Hopefully, you can find some use to these too.

It’s pretty cool there are so many ways to find people to communicate with in the language you wish to learn. Below are some  different services that connect the world in great ways.

penpalworldPenPalWorld. You can find pen pals all over the world via this website, but it has some additional features that can be quite helpful. You can for instance block adults if you are a minor. Especially for parents, this is quite an important feature as it gives your kid the opportunity to learn a language with a native speaker without any risk.

International Pen Friends (IPF). If you are a bit more serious about meeting people with similar interests and you don’t mind investing in it, IPF is a really good choice. We’re talking about actual letter writing here. As a member, you receive 4 to 14 addresses of people whom you can correspond with. Because it solely offers actual addresses rather than e-mailaddresses, IPF is accessible to those, who do not have regular access to internet as well. This means that you may well get in touch with native speakers, who do not use the internet frequently. Quite intriguing, if you ask me.

penpalsnowPenpalsNow! This is another free website that connects people around the world. Here you can easily find pen pals by choosing an age group and a gender. Then you can see ads of available pen pals. You can see their interests and thus, find someone you share interests with. If you want to be found, you can place an ad yourself.

Interpalsinterpals. If you want to learn a language well, you can make use of the Language Exchange Interpals offers. Here you can find people to help you learn a foreign language. There is a wide range of options from English to Yiddish, so it’s likely you will find someone to help you with your chosen language, even if that language is generally not taught or spoken by many.

It doesn’t end at just the five mentioned above. There are countless websites now offering to connect people. So, if what you are looking for is not in any of the above, there are many other websites to explore.
